Walking in a Winter Dickens on the Strand

Fun Was Had By All!
 Photo Story

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and happy new year!  Before we left for vacation on December 18th we created a, “Mini-Dickens on the Strand” right here at Durham Elementary.

On December 18th at 6:00 Durham Elementary held its annual winter festival.  It was a huge success with well over 200 parents and students attending!  We had many activities that children, parents, and community members attended:

Performances
Many of our classes participated in a variety of different activities ranging from dances using parachutes to hula hoops.  Please view our pictures attached of proud Durham students.

Face painting
Using the talents of our art teacher and other artistically inclined staff we had decorative face painting for all age groups!

Hayride
A local resident of Shepherd Park Plaza created a hayride with his trailer and truck.  Once decorated he took all students, parents, and staff through Shepherd Park Plaza to look at all the Christmas and Holiday decorations.  This was provided for free to all who wanted to attend!

Cookie Decorating
With the help of our active PTA we were able to turn our science lab into a sugar cookie decorating room.  Students were able to choose between different color frosting and sprinkles but the best part was eating their creation!

Pictures w/Santa and Spotty the Dalmatian
Again with the help of our active PTA and a surprise visit by Santa and Durham’s own mascot children were able to get a candy cane and picture.

It was a great event where we were able to connect with parents, students, and our community.  If you have any questions about the event or would like more details (The Leader, SPP Pulse, HISD Media) please feel free to contact me at anytime!  We appreciate all your support and truly value our collaboration.

Thanks Again,
Daniel J. Breiman
