Marathon Kids

Marathon Kids is a city wide program created by Kay Morris, and Durham students may participate by simply completing the student registration form.  Students will be running at school to help them complete 26 miles by the end of March.  Students who complete and return the registration form will receive a free Marathon Kids t-shirt.

During the year, students receive a mileage and fruits and vegetable log.  This log is completed at home along with parental help and guidance.

Marathon Kids host a huge Kick-Off Celebration every October and a Finale Event in late March or early April for students that have completed their marathon.  At the Finale event, students receive their medal along with a sense of accomplishment and treats.

This year, Durham was presented with the Marathon Kids Food Garden sign, the first elementary school to receive such an award.  Durham students work in our garden and habitat throughout the year studying plant and animal life.  They also plant various seeds and harvest the plants when ripe.
