Through the Fine Arts Program at Durham our students learn about art and creativity by doing projects that teach them the elements of art,
principals of design, art history, as well as personal expression; all of which enhance their core curriculum while having fun. Projects vary from
drawing, painting, oil pastels, colored pencils, collage, sculpture, and various other art mediums. Every year our students will get the opportunity
to do an art unit on at least one artist.
In Addition, we will soon be adding clay to the Durham art curriculum due to the new addition of our kiln shed. This will allow every student at
Durham the opportunity to learn the basics of the art of ceramics. Finally, students also have the opportunity to participate in multiple art contests
throughout the year including Jump Rope for heart, Rodeo Art, IMPACT, and more. |

There are many other opportunities for the students at Durham to explore the arts. In our after school program students have the opportunity
to be a part of the Art & Science Club where they will be working on projects related to science. There is also dance, and karate offered
in our after school program. In the fall all of our 5th graders take classes at the Glassell Junior School of Art through the Museum of Fine Arts.
And in the spring many of our students will be working on another art car to enter the art car parade in May for the second year in a row.
Through our webpage you can stay updated on all the fun projects our students are producing through the online galleries of our artists of the month,
art competition winners, and soon to be the Artsonia gallery. Enjoy! |
