It’s a haven for little imaginations to explore, discover and have FUN with books/reading. We stock over 9,000 titles for children in English and Spanish. Both fiction and non-fiction titles are displayed in an inviting fashion. Our ever-expanding multicultural collection of books makes Durham's library a treasure trove for book lovers of all ages.
Please come and visit us in person. Each time you visit the library, you will help your child reinforce and expand reading and thinking skills. Select just the right book for your child to take home. Frequent visits will help your child become a lifelong learner. Come back again and again!
Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader program (AR) provides teachers and children with a fun and exciting way to promote reading. AR is a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. Students find a book on their reading level, read independently or with a buddy, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer.
Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. A wide variety of books are marked with red stickers in the library to indicate that they are AR books. Students may read AR books and take the associated test to earn points which are awared with our popular dog tag program and ultimately, their name on the AR Wall of Fame.
